It lacks a bit of the X-Factor.
As a big Leona Lewis fan, I was so excited about her second album titled 'Echo'. When I finally got my copy, I think the anticipation of how amazing it would be ruined the first listening experience. The album is quite dissapointing (not quite so bad as Miss Burke's debut...) At fist listen, it sounds like typical Leona. Big ballard, another big ballard, oooh something upbeat, big ballard. *Yawn*
Don't get me wrong, there are some beautiful songs on this album; "My Hands", "I Got You" and "Happy" are my three favourites, and we even get some Taylor Swift-esque sound (minus awful hormonal girl angst) in "Naked" and it seems like this album could have been really good but songs like "Brave" (for it's entirely different theme and direction) that knock this album down a peg or two.
I really like a lot of the songs on this album, but as a whole - the direction seems off, and seems like the producers were going more substance over style. I was expecting more from Leona, she has certainly matured but she still hasn't rooted herself into music with a style that can suit her voice, moves out of the cliche power ballard and has distinctive flavour and edge.
So Leona, for 'Echo' I give you;
3/5
